ASHM JUNIOR RESEARCHER SUPPORT AWARDS IN HIV, VIRAL HEPATITIS AND STIs 2014

The Australasian Society for HIV Medicine (ASHM) is once again offering its Junior Researcher Support Awards to junior researchers in the fields of HIV, Viral Hepatitis and STIs.

What are the Support Awards?
ASHM offers a number of competitive Support Awards to foster research interests in HIV, Viral Hepatitis and STIs. The Junior Researcher Support Awards are given for quality research reflecting national priority action areas. Awards are funded by ASHM and the ASHM Tax Deductible Domestic Gift Fund with administrative support from the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing.

When to apply?
Applications close at 5pm Sunday, June 8 2014

Who can apply?
Applications are invited from all relevant disciplines, with priority given to medicine, nursing, dentistry, allied health, Aboriginal health and multicultural health. Research must relate to a current degree, diploma, physician training program or post-doctorate award program and can be new research or work in progress. Please note that applications from researchers who have already completed their post-doctorate study will not be accepted. Awards are available to residents of Australia and New Zealand only.

What do the Awards comprise?
Successful recipients will be awarded the following:
  • Free registration at the 2014 World Indigenous Peoples Conference for Viral Hepatitis or the 2014 Australasian Viral Hepatitis Conference or 2014 Australasian Sexual Health Conference
  • Presentation of a poster (following abstract submission) to the selected conference
  • Scholarship for recipients requiring travel and/or accommodation to assist with attendance at the conference up to a value of A$400 for Sydney and A$600 for Alice Springs
  • Links with ASHM members in relevant field
  • Publication of a short report on the research initiative in an edition of ASHM News
  • ASHM student membership for 2014-2015
  • Research project published on ASHM's website
  • Access to ASHM library, resources and archives
How do you apply?
Please click here to view the application form and submit this, along with an abstract and a photocopy of your most recent academic transcript. Abstracts must be submitted in writing and should be no more than 350 words. Applications may be sent via post or by email. See details below.

Please note that applications should reflect national priority action areas for research, as outlined in the Sixth National HIV Strategy 2010-2013, Third National Hepatitis C Strategy 2010-2013, First National Hepatitis B Strategy 2010-2013 and the National Sexually Transmissible Infections Strategy. These can be found at www.health.gov.au or on the ASHM website at www.ashm.org.au

Nominated members of the ASHM Board will review the applications and applicants will be notified of the outcome by Monday, 14 July 2014.
