Learning Session 1

Sermon and Discussion: This Ministry of Reconciliation

The Christian faith is predicated upon the belief that Jesus’ ministry of reconciliation accomplished two otherwise impossible objectives: first restoring the relationship between humankind and the Creator, and second, restoring the harmonious relationship God intended for all people in community. Consider Ephesians 2:13-16.

If the mission of the Church is the formation of one body out of many people who were previously divided, then it is reasonable to expect that local churches would be suitable examples of reconciliation, conflict resolution, and intercultural mission.

Learning Session 2

Leading in Diversity-Oriented Churches

In this session Dr. Leander will lay out a framework for Intercultural Leadership and Cultural Intelligence and set the stage for the highly interactive sessions that will constitute the experience. This session will feature some lessons and key learnings from pastors of diversity-oriented churches.

Learning Session 3

Discussing Cultural Dilemmas

Attendees are broken into groups based on leadership roles (we imagine small groups of up to 10). This session is designed to facilitate the beginning of discussions between attendees around the three cultural dilemmas they most anticipate facing as they orient their churches towards diversity. Each group will report back about their common anticipated dilemmas on day three.

Learning Session 4

Leading with Cultural Intelligence

In this session we will begin by discussing the cultural dilemmas each group anticipates they will face as they orient their churches more towards diversity. Then, Dr. Leander can help leaders of diversity-oriented churches to work out personal and congregational cultural dilemmas.
