Bert Pieters
Bert Pieters is staff member at Mediawijs, the Flemish Knowledge Centre for Digital and Media Literacy in Belgium. Bert trains teachers to enhance their media literacy skills, gives workshops to parents to introduce them in the world of vlogging and gaming and coordinated the Flemish No Hate Speech Movement between 2016-2018.
Artemis K. Tsitsika
Artemis K. Tsitsika, MD, PhD is Assοciate Professor in Pediatrics / Adolescent Health at the Athens University in Greece and Head of the Adolescent Health Unit (AHU) of the Second Department of Pediatrics, University of Athens. She has received the award of the Greek Society of Adolescent Medicine for her contribution to the development of Adolescent Health in Greece, and also 18 scientific awards.
She has been a visiting professor in Western Michigan University and adjunct Professor of the University of Kentucky in the United States. She has been the scientific supervisor of intense courses on youth with special needs and the “State of the Art” Adolescent Medicine Course, which takes place yearly in Greece.
She has taken part in international meetings as an invited speaker and has published a number of books in Greece- has also contributed with chapters in medical books in the international literature. She has been collaborating with Greek and international journals as a reviewer and has published research and review articles on adolescent health. She is heading one of the leading programs on safe internet use and digital citizenship in Greece, as well as various other programs on youth eating disorders, obesity, sexuality issues and vaccinations.
She has been supervising scientifically the NGO "For Adolescent Health -F.A.H." www.youth-life.gr and is the present President of the Greek Society of Adolescent Medicine www.youth-med.gr. She is the Director of the MSc program on “Developmental and Adolescent Health” of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
Andrew WilliamsAndrew is an experienced primary schools teacher and educational consultant for online safety and information security. Andrew is a key member of the SELMA team, a co-writer of the toolkit and a member of the original concept team. He regularly works with schools, young people and government departments across the EU. He is passionate about technology use in schools and safeguarding children and young people.
He lives in South Wales with his young family and amazing wife. He loves being a geek, baking bread or pizza and going sailing and running.
Tommaso Chiamparino
Tommaso Chiamparino is the European Commission Coordinator on combating anti-Muslim hatred since 2018. The work of the coordinator focuses on ensuring an holistic policy response at EU level to the widespread intolerance, hatred, racism and discrimination faced by Muslims, or individuals perceived as being Muslims. In parallel to taking up the role of Coordinator, Tommaso works on countering hate speech online and on the implementation of the Code of conduct signed by the European Commission with major IT platforms in 2016. Tommaso holds a PhD in political science and before joining the Commission was as consultant specialised on participatory methods and worked on environmental sustainability in the non profit sector.
Hans Martens
Hans Martens (PhD) is Digital Citizenship Team and Programme Manager at European Schoolnet, heading the Digital Citizenship strategy of the organisation. Within this context, Hans is the SELMA project manager. He also coordinates the Insafe network of Safer Internet Centres, while leading the Better Internet for Kids project which implements, on behalf of the European Commission, a range of digital tools and services that help make the internet a trusted environment for children through actions that empower and protect them online, sharing knowledge, resources and practices. Hans’ team is involved in a variety of other projects, platforms and campaigns, including sml4change, the eSafety Label and the EU Code Week.

I’m a teacher of English Language and Literature in an upper secondary school in Siracusa, Italy and I have been working at school for about 20 years, I’m passionate about educational technologies and a strong supporter of continuous professional development. I started my experience as an eTwinning Ambassador in 2011, and since then I have the opportunity of collaborating with a large network of European teachers. I dedicate myself to dissemination activities and sharing good practices in my local area, in national and European events, I’m always happy to help colleagues find innovative strategies and promote the development of key competences for lifelong learning and 21st century skills through eTwinning and other online communities. I have been involved in a lot of European school partnerships: Comenius and Erasmus+, I organize courses for international language certificates, CLIL and e-learning. I’ve been working as a Teacher trainer and online tutor in my region for the 2 national plans for digital school (Piano Nazionale Scuola Digitale PNSD 2009-2014 and 2016-2019) ESF teacher training projects as an online tutor with INDIRE for linguistic (Plurilingue) and digital competence (PON Didatec). I have recently been involved in two important project initiatives promoted by European Schoolnet EUN “Social Media Literacy for Change” #SML4C and SELMA #Hacking Hate. I’m currently working with teachers and schools in my area at digital curricular strategic plan designs to combine digital and information literacies with media education, language and communication skills and global competence. It’s very challenging but of fundamental importance for the new generations to face consciously and successfully the contemporary society.
Alex Holmes
Alex Holmes is Deputy CEO at The Diana Award, a legacy charity to Princess Diana based on the belief that young people can change the world Using his own experience of bullying at school, Alex came up with the idea of ‘Anti-Bullying Ambassadors’ aged 15 in 2003 at his own school and then scaling this up regionally, something he received The Diana Award for in 2005. Using this knowledge and experience he has been a driving force behind the programme at the charity and now as Deputy CEO leads the development, partnerships & fundraising team.
During his nearly 7 years at The Diana Award Alex has played a considerable role working with the CEO in securing valuable and long term partnerships and relationships that have increased the profile of the charity and diversified income streams contributing to long term sustainability.
Before The Diana Award Alex worked briefly at the BBC as a Broadcast Assistant presenting and producing news and travel. Alex then worked in the education system for 5 years in various roles from teaching assistant, learning mentor to Head of Year.
Alex sits a number of global safety advisory boards and councils for technology and social media companies, representing the organisation globally on policy, safety and trust and has played a key role in Prince William's The Royal Foundation Taskforce on the Prevention of Cyberbullying. In 2017 he was made a Queen's Young Leader by Her Majesty The Queen at Buckingham Palace,
representing the commonwealth for his work in tackling bullying and January 2018 was announced as
one of Forbes 30 Under 30, an annual encyclopedia of ‘the brightest entrepreneurs, innovators and
game-changers under the age of 30 who are transforming business as usual and changing the world.’
Alex was also named on the Independent on Sunday's Happy List as one of the ‘100 people who
make Britain a happier place to live’.
In his spare time Alex enjoys travelling, film and getting back to his hometown Milton Keynes.
