Join Wellington City Council funders on a tour showcasing Wellington’s remarkable not for profit sector. Spend a morning immersed in the creative Capital in a series of artists’ led spaces. A fun way to see the community side of our remarkable city.
 
Tours meet at the Te Papa entrance at 9.30am on Wednesday. The tour should wrap up by 12:30pm. Taxis and a light morning tea will be provided. Cost: $25 per person

Our city on show: Sustainability and Food  

How can we create a food system that nourishes both people and the planet? Spend the morning getting to know organisations that are creating a more sustainable food system in Wellington. Participants will learn about sustainable agriculture, food security, and unique funding initiatives that Wellington City Council is using to support sustainable food systems.  We will be visiting: 

  • Compassionate Soup Kitchen Garden:This urban garden is located at Te Pūaroha Soup Kitchen. The Te Pūaroha has been operating in Te Aro, Wellington since 1901. The garden grows kai to be shared by all and offers opportunities for whānau to learn new skills, practice old skills, have fun being outside with others. 
  • Innermost Gardens: Innermost Gardens: Innermost Gardens is a community garden located in Mt Victoria, Wellington. The garden brings together people passionate about growing food sustainably and building strong communities. Innermost Gardens surrounds Vic Hub, a dynamic community centre. 
  • Kaibosh: Kaibosh is a Wellington-based food rescue organisation. Kaibosh links the food industry with community groups that support people in need ensuring that quality surplus food reaches those who are struggling, rather than being needlessly discarded. Kiabosh rescues and redistributes the equivalent of 71,000 meals each month.

 

Our city on show: Artist-led spaces

Join Wellington City Council funders on a tour showcasing Wellington’s remarkable not for profit sector. Spend a morning immersed in the creative Capital in a series of artists’ led spaces. A fun way to see the community side of our remarkable city.

 

We will be visiting: 

  • Vogelmorn: Vogelmorn Community Group are a charitable trust that provides community spaces that are available for community groups and arts practitioners to run workshops, rehearsals, classes, and other activities. 
  • Te Haukāinga: Te Haukāinga is a repurposed building on Taranaki Street in central Wellington which provides a colaborative space for Maori and Pacifica performing arts groups including Taki Rua Productions, Tawata Productions and the Maori Sidesteps.
  • Enjoy: Enjoy is an artist-run initiative that provides both emerging and established practitioners with opportunities to develop new and innovative work through exhibitions, off-site projects, and public programmes
