Finding Rhythms Workshop - Interactive Training for ICPA Delegates*

Arts activities have long been recognised as an effective tool for rehabilitation in the criminal justice context. Yet there is less understanding about how they work, and arts activities are still too often considered a luxury for those in prison.

With the generous support of Sodexo, ICPA are pleased to offer delegates the chance to see for themselves how arts activities can support the rehabilitation journey. As part of this year’s conference, London-based charity Finding Rhythms will be running 90 minute music-making sessions, to give delegates a taste of the rehabilitation programmes that they run in prisons all over the UK.

Music is a uniquely engaging medium, and the process of recording music requires focus, teamwork, discipline and creativity. As such, it can often be used to engage the ‘hardest-to-reach’ individuals, and can bring about significant improvements in wellbeing, self-esteem, interpersonal and working skills.

If you are involved in prisoner education or efforts to reduce reoffending, if you sing in a choir or learned guitar at school, if you love karaoke and a bit of a dance, then the Finding Rhythms workshop is a great chance to experience at first hand how well-structured arts provision can change individuals and groups.

Location: Bourg Room, Mezzanine Floor
