Success Factors in Worker Co-op Development

Wednesday, September 17, 2014
4-5 pm

Room: Gallaudet

Worker cooperatives can create good jobs and build skills and assets for low-income workers, but their potential has not been widely recognized in the asset-building field. Co-op development has become a growing field in the wake of the great recession, with nonprofit organizations, foundations, unions and governments increasingly interested in the model. At this Roundtable, Hilary Abell will present the findings of her white paper, Worker Cooperatives: Pathways to Scale, published in June 2014. Hilary and Alison Lingane, Co-founders of Project Equity, will lead a discussion of the benefits, challenges and potential of worker co-op development as an asset-building strategy and explore key success factors with participants.
