EMERGENCY MANAGER OF THE YEAR AWARD

 DEADLINE MARCH 15, 2020

This award  recognizes and honors an individual or program, public or private, that embodies the values and leadership displayed by Emergency Coordinator  Kevin H. Tuno during his thirty-three years of service to the Emergency Management Community in New Jersey. The recipient will be an individual or program who, through their long-term commitment to emergency preparedness efforts, have clearly influenced the Emergency Management profession in New Jersey, in a positive and insightful manner.

 

ELIGIBILITY & RULES

Any individual or emergency management program active in emergency management activities in New Jersey are eligible for this award. It is intended to recognize the successful leadership of public or private preparedness and emergency management individuals or programs that have demonstrated leadership, ingenuity and selflessness. Individuals may be involved in public or private emergency management, mitigation, preparedness, response or recovery efforts anywhere in the State. This award is not limited to emergency management personnel but is open to all who work in the field including planners, contractors, PIOs, first responders, etc.

All applications must be received as one file or package via email no later than March 15, 2020. Any application received after this date will not be considered.

 

SELECTION PROCESS

Award selections will be based solely on the information presented in the award nomination. Nominations need to be clear, descriptive and provide specific examples that demonstrate that the person/project/program meets the selection criteria. There may not be a self-nomination for this honor.

CAPTAIN JONATHON C. YOUNG MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP AWARD

Deadline: March 27, 2020

 

This scholarship, named for Captain Jonathan C. Young, former President of the New Jersey Emergency Preparedness Association, is intended for a graduating high school senior or college student presently enrolled in an accredited college or university interested in pursuing a career in the emergency management field of study. This includes fire suppression, law enforcement, hazardous material, arson investigation, etc.

 

ELIGIBILITY & RULES

The candidate must be a high school senior or presently enrolled in a college or university as a full-time or part time student. The candidate must be a legal U.S. resident and a resident of the State of New Jersey.

 

All applications must be received as one file by e-mail and should include transcripts and any other supporting information. See below for the contact information. Applications must be received no later than Friday, March 27, 2020 at 3:00 PM. Any application received after this date will not be considered for a scholarship.

 

SELECTION PROCESS

All applications will be reviewed for eligibility and to ensure that all supporting documentation has been received. A blind selection process will be employed with original documentation in the custody of the Executive Director or their designee. Applications will then be reviewed by selection committee. Each committee member will rank each application from 1-5, 1 being the highest. Should there be no qualified applicants in any given year the scholarship may not be awarded.  Scholarship Awardees will be notified by e-mail and/or telephone between April 18, 2020 and April 22, 2020.
