Description

Oral cancer affects an estimated 53,000 patients each year. Early detection is often the key to saving lives, and, for many patients, this begins with screenings by their dentists. Oral cancer is considered medical in nature and covered by all medical plans, including Medicare. In this presentation, we will focus on how cancer-related procedures are reported to medical payers. We will also cover how other nonmalignant oral lesions may be reported for reimbursement by medical payers.

Learning Objectives

·         Know which oral cancer screening procedures may be reimbursed by medical payers.

·         Learn common medical codes for reporting biopsy procedures.

·         Understand how to accurately submit a medical claim for biopsies.

·         Learn how to report other oral lesions, such as mucoceles, to a medical plan.
