The broadband world has experienced rapid change for many years, but never before has the electric industry itself realized such large-scale change as it relates to broadband. New and evolving laws, rules, regulations, and public demands have created opportunities, and sometimes even necessitated both Muni’s and Co-op’s consideration of expanding into this line of business. However, not every electric provider should jump into the broadband business, and careful consideration must be invested well in advance of making such a decision. In this session, Erik Brinke, will share ideas and interact with attendees interested in beginning their research into broadband. Erik will share real-life “lessons learned” from BRMEMC’s long history in the broadband and fiber-optic business, and will provide a proven “checklist” of things to consider before undertaking the broadband journey.
