Mercedes is passionate about strategic marketing and innovation. She currently serves as the Director of Marketing & Communications for Cate School, a highly selective, co-ed, independent school for boarding and day students in the 9th through 12th grade located in Carpinteria, CA. In her role at Cate, Mercedes is responsible for guiding the development and implementation of audience-centered, data-driven marketing strategies, as well as bringing authentic storytelling concepts to life through highly strategic, compelling, and meaningful content. New to California, Mercedes returned to the US in August 2017 after two years in England, where she served as Director of Strategic Marketing at TASIS The American School in England. Before her journey across the pond, Mercedes held the position of Director of Marketing and Communications at Renbrook School, a Pre-Kindergarten-8 junior day school in West Hartford, CT. Prior to Renbrook School, Mercedes held the position of Web Content Editor, Writer, and Social Media Manager at the Loomis Chaffee School, a day and boarding school for Grades 98-12 located in Windsor, CT. Mercedes presents on marketing strategies internationally. Past partnerships have included the Ten Schools Admission Organization, The European Council of International Schools, the Educational Records Bureau, Finalsite, and Evertrue. An active member of a number of international associations, Mercedes’ professional affiliations include the American Marketing Association, the Public Relations Society of America, and the European Association of Communications Directors (EACD). Mercedes received a Bachelor of Arts in English from Southern Connecticut State University and a Master of Science in Organizational Communications from Central Connecticut State University. She is the coauthor of “Social Marketing Environmental Issues,” Aa theoretically grounded text on social marketing strategies for influencing environmental behaviors. In 2012, Mercedes received the Outstanding Web Site WebAward by the Web Marketing Association.
