Goal:
To educate pediatric nurses, social workers and other pediatric health professionals about the long term effects of childhood cancer treatment.

Target Audience:
Nurses, social workers, child life specialists, psychologists and other healthcare professionals at all levels, who work with childhood cancer survivors.

Continuing Education Information
Approval for Nurses has been obtained by the Southern Florida Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society under provider number 50-12996 Expires: 10/31/2018 to award 5.0 continuing education contact hour(s) through the Florida Board of Nursing.

Approval for Social Workers has been obtained by NASW-FL an approved provider under the Board of Clinical Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, and Mental Health Counseling Provider #BAP-321, Exp. 03/19. Participants may obtain up to 5.0 contact hours under Chapter 491.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society maintains responsibility for this program.

Learning Objectives
At the end of this program participants will be able to:
  • Understand the current growing population of pediatric oncology survivors
  • Understand the common long term medical side effects for all pediatric oncology patients
  • Understand potential risk factors for common long term medical side effects
  • Understand long term medical side effects that are more common to specific diagnoses or treatment
  • Understand resources available for patients with medical long term effects and when referral should be considered
  • Identify psychosocial late effects from childhood cancer and treatment
  • Identify risk factors associated with psychosocial late effects of childhood cancer and treatment
  • Describe screening, intervention, and referral options for children and their families
  • Recognize endocrine effects of pediatric cancers
  • Recognize early and late endocrine effects of cancer treatment
  • Understand treatment of endocrinopathies caused by cancer treatments
  • Describe the role of the hospital clown
  • Understand the benefits of laughter for pediatric cancer patients
  • Discuss how childhood cancer survivors positively impact professionals
