Event Description
Arizona State University’s Center for Applied Behavioral Health Policy (CABHP) is pleased to announce the 19th Annual Summer Institute will be held July 17-20, 2018. We’re looking toward another great year of providing education and networking opportunities to Arizona’s healthcare and behavioral health professionals. This year, we head to our new venue in Flagstaff, AZ at the High Country Conference Center, to welcome national experts, innovative local leaders, educators, researchers, clinicians, peer support specialists, counselors, outreach providers, government leaders and other professionals together for the four-day conference. Over 350 professionals from numerous private and state agencies attended the conference, and we look forward to seeing you and your colleagues in 2018.

The conference provides a wide variety of educational sessions for today’s healthcare and behavioral health professionals and partners. We will showcase keynotes conducted by nationally recognized researchers and experts, as well as more than 40 breakout sessions addressing a wide range of innovative topics relevant to those working in the field.

We are also offering the following pre-conference trainings:

Buprenorphine Waiver Training. To prescribe buprenorphine, one of three medications approved by the FDA for the treatment of opioid use disorder, physicians are required to complete 8 hours of training in order to apply to the Drug Enforcement Agency for a waiver. This course will provide prescribers with the first 4 hours of required MAT training. Following completion of the course, attendees will be given a link to complete the remainder of the training at no cost from the Providers Clinical Support System (PCSS). Nurse Practitioners (NP) and Physician assistants (PA) are required to complete 24 hours of training including the 8 hour MAT training. Coffee and light refreshments will be provided.

Date Tuesday July 17th, 2018 from 8am-12pm Instructor: Dr. Luke Peterson, DO Cost $25

Motivational Interviewing (MI) Academy on Monday, July 16, 2018 from 8:30am-4pm & Tuesday, July 17, 2018 from 8:30am-3:00pm. This academy is a unique intensive workshop that includes multiple opportunities for participants to practice MI skills and receive individualized mentoring and feedback. Academy participants will learn and improve their MI skills through use of videos, real-plays, exercises, and scoring of recorded clinical sessions. Training participants can track their MI proficiency and skill development via the new MyMI web portal. Upon completion of the Academy, and submission of two work samples, participants will receive a completion certificate demonstrating their individualized MI proficiency level.

Motivational Interviewing is a client-centered, goal-oriented method for enhancing intrinsic motivation to change by exploring and resolving ambivalence. Studies on learning motivational interviewing have shown, individual coaching and feedback contribute substantially to the enhancement of MI skills (Miller, Yahne, Moyers, Martinez, & Pirritano, 2004; Schwalbe, Oh, & Zweben, 2014).

Attendees will earn 12 hours of CEUs. We provide continuing education through NAADAC http://www.naadac.org/ which is typically accepted by most licensing and certification bodies. Please contact cabhp@asu.edu with any questions.
