Abstract

Course participants with learn benefits of both layering and bulk fill techniques with direct composites of r daily practice and will get recommendations regarding technique selection depending on the clinical case to keep the balance of aesthetics and efficiency. Every participant will prepare two Class II cavities and then restore the teeth with different approaches: 1. Layering technique with different translucency levels and characterization capabilities and 2. Bulk fill technique for higher efficiency. Each clinical step from tooth preparation, through bonding, layering to curing and polishing including tips and tricks will be discussed in detail in lecture and covered in hands-on sessions.

Introduction

The quality of a direct restoration depends not only on the manual skills of a dentist, but of course on the materials and techniques used, too. It is crucial to choose optimal bonding procedure as well as proven composite restoration technique. However, there are several generations of bonding system still on the market, which could confuse its selection. On the other hand, there is a clear trend for higher efficiency and simplification of the treatment procedure, like universal materials and bulk filling technique, potentially saving significant time, which is a very attractive approach especially for posterior restorations.

Learning Objectives

  1. Cavity margins preparation techniques to optimize  adhesion and improve the shade blending of the restoration
  2. Bonding procedures selection depending on the cavity.
  3. Layering and bulk fill techniques in posteriors.
  4. Proper light curing of the composites.
  5. Clinical tips for higher quality and longevity of direct restorations.
