Monday, 9 July 2018, from 9:00 to 11:00

To join the walking tour, please register for it by logging back into your registration or send an email to the Events Team.

Ljubljana Tourism offers an array of programmes enabling visitors to experience and enjoy the charming Slovenian capital, which – due to its human measure, really invites to take a walk along its cobbled streets in the historic quarters, and along the riverbanks.

The classical walking tours focus on the Old Town, which is nestled under the Castle Hill, and provides an excellent initial orientation and first taste of the city. Along the way, the main sights in this area are presented, as well as a brief history of Ljubljana over the centuries. The actual centre is found on the very site where the first settlements existed in the 11th century BC. The Old Town nowadays reflects a predominantly Baroque image, and a part of Ljubljana also displays beautiful Art Nouveau buildings. Last, but not least, the downtown area is characterised by many bridges spanning the Ljubljanica river and bears the strong personal mark of the greatest Slovenian architect Jože Plečnik, whose complete work of art is nearly omnipresent in the city.

The 2-hour walking tour does not include the Ljubljana Castle from where a beautiful panorama ‒ stretching as far as the Alps, unfolds.

Ljubljana Tourism also suggests a number of themed tours, including the Taste Ljubljana food tour, the Ljubljana Wine experience, the Ljubljana Beer experience, cycling tours, etc. In summer, a very popular activity is also stand-up paddling, which is feasible also for beginners, and whose itinerary brings participants to the very city centre.
