Andrew “Buddy” Donohue is of counsel in the investment funds group at Shearman & Sterling. Donohue has been practicing law for over 40 years in the asset management area, in both senior government and private sector roles. He most recently served as the Securities and Exchange Commission’s chief of staff to Chair Mary Jo White, and is best known for his service as director of the SEC’s Division of Investment Management from 2006 to 2010. In addition, Buddy has served as managing director, associate general counsel and investment company general counsel at Goldman Sachs; global general counsel at Merrill Lynch Investment Managers; executive vice president and general counsel at OppenheimerFunds; and general counsel at First Investors. He has also been an officer, director and counsel for numerous investment advisers, broker-dealers, commodity trading advisers, transfer agents and insurance companies. Buddy is an acknowledged and highly-respected thought leader within the industry, having spoken on many industry panels, lectured on investment management law; and contributed to numerous investment fund publications over the years.
