Restorative Course 3 - Function and Aesthetics of Direct Posterior Restorations:
Layering vs Bulk Filling
09:00 - 17:30Restorative 3 Course - Function and Aesthetics Direct Posterior Restorations: Layering vs. Bulk Filling

Dr. Michael Dieter

DDS, Head of Professional Services - Switzerland

Date: Monday, 5 February 2018
Time: 09:00 - 18:00
Venue: Novotel World Trade Centre Hotel
Course Fee: AED 2,300
Teaching Method: Participation

Course participants learn how to restore posterior teeth more efficiently and esthetically in daily practice with direct composite materials. Every participant will prepare a large class II molar defect and subsequently build up the defect to its natural anatomic shape using 2 different techniques: 1. The more sophisticated layering technique with opaque dentin shades/semi-translucent enamel shades and 2. the latest bulk-fill technique. All the necessary steps from adequate tooth preparation through bonding procedures to restoring and polishing will be carried out and discussed in detail to achieve natural & functional restorations including a perfect contact point. Tips and trick to avoid port-operative sensitivity will be discussed and shown in detail.

Direct composites have become increasingly popular as tooth-colored restorations also for extensive lesions in posterior teeth. Today, direct posterior restorations represent a major treatment modality of the restorative dentist. Reconstitution of the natural anatomical morphology applying the latest resin composite materials yields an esthetic restorations that is long lasting in the patient's mouth.

However, the step-by-step procedure of the incremental build-up technique can be very time consuming in the dental practice. Recently developed composite materials for bulk-fill application possibly have the potential to save significant chairside time for the creation of posterior restorations

Learning Objectives

  1. Minimally-invasive tooth preparation techniques to optimize adhesion.
  2. Predictable bonding procedures to optimize adhesion and avoid sensitivity.
  3. Perform the layering technique and the bulk fill technique for posterior build-ups.
  4. Creation of perfect proximal contact points.
  5. Perfection of finishing and polishing techniques.
