About CCURI

The Community College Undergraduate Research Initiative (CCURI) is a national consortium of community colleges, four-year schools, government agencies, and private organizations dedicated to the development, implementation, and assessment of sustainable models for integrating an undergraduate research (UR) experience into community college STEM programs. Over the last 5 years the National Science Foundation has invested over $5.2 million dollars in CCURI though grant awards to Finger Lakes Community College. These awards have funded the growth of a national network of over 40 community colleges that have implemented the CCURI model of undergraduate research. Students from within the network have competed with top notch 4-year college and university students to win awards for high quality research and have contributed work to the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.

About AC2

Austin Community College Bio-Link Regional Center (AC2) is a four year advanced technological education (ATE) center grant that is focused on educational and industry based solutions using Communities of Practices (CoPs) as a methodology to effectively establish networks supporting workforce growth for Biotechnology industries in Texas and Kentucky. AC2 activities will broaden the impact of the national center to expand Bio-Link’s distributed leadership network model to build replicable state Bio-Link networks. In Texas, the leadership team is composed of Austin Community College, Collin County Community College in Dallas, and Del Mar College in Corpus Christi. The participating college in Kentucky is Bluegrass Community and Technical College.

The focus of the AC2 center is to complete the development of the Texas Bio-Link Network and initiate the Kentucky Network. The range of educational participants in both states will include high schools, two year colleges, four year colleges, universities and statewide industry partners. Partners from these establishments are recruited and share resources to do the following: (1) help introduce students to the biosciences field, (2) recruit students into STEM fields through the undergraduate research pipeline, (3) develop and implement entry level certification from both high schools and community colleges, (4) form statewide articulation agreements among high schools and two year colleges, and universal articulation agreements among two year and four year colleges, (5) provide direction to educators related to the needed curriculum content and skill development, (6) contracts with colleges to conduct contract services (CSO work), (7) provide student internships and faculty externships,  and (8) be a source of employment for graduates.

Any new innovations will be disseminated nationally through Bio-Link, the Northeast Biomanufacturing Center Collaborative (NBC2), the Consortium for TAACCCT funded Bioscience Credentials (C3BC), and statewide and locally as identified by partners on the grant.
