Bio
Karine Péloffy has been a member of the Quebec Bar since 2007 and Executive Director of the Quebec Center for Environmental Law (CQDE) from 2014 to 2018, for which she is now Legal Counsel. Ms Péloffy has developed a rare expertise in climate litigation, publishing the first comparative law article on climate litigation in Canada and the US and publicly commenting emerging cases internationally. She authored a chapter in Climate Justice (2017), which explores constitutional recourses available to indigenous peoples in Canada with regards to climate change mitigation and adaptation. Ms Péloffy holds an M.Sc. in Environmental Change and Management from the University of Oxford and a B.C.L./LL.B. from McGill University’s unique trans-systemic law program. Ms. Péloffy was awarded the Lawyer of the Year award in the alternative career category by the Montreal Young Bar Association in 2015 and featured in Figure de Maître by the Barreau de Montréal in 2017. She started her legal career at Davies Ward Philips & Vineberg before gaining international experience. She is a member of the Multi-Interest Advisory Committee to the to the federal Environment and Climate Change Minister on environmental assessments reform.
