In-house legal - create, sustain and evolve

Against a backdrop of increased pressure on in-house lawyers to ‘do more with less’, our one day conference will bring together solicitors from the public, private and third sectors to reflect on how you can thrive in an in-house legal environment.

Join us on 11 May 2017 at the Law Society of Scotland’s offices in Edinburgh for legal updates and practical guidance to help ensure you and your colleagues can ‘create, sustain and evolve’ your in-house legal roles.

Create – what is the key to a successful in-house legal team? We’ll hear from Carolyn Jameson on her role as Chief Legal Office at Skyscanner and from a panel of experienced heads of legal from local authority, public body and private sector backgrounds on how to build and lead a successful in-house legal team.

Sustain – how can you continue to best advise and protect your organisation? Our speakers will cover litigation risk analysis; mitigating cybercrime and regulatory risks; and a practical guide to contract law developments.

Evolve – what does the future hold? We’ll look at the uncertainty, challenges and opportunities posed by Brexit and the need to maintain stability of governance in times of significant commercial and political uncertainty.

The conference will close with a drinks reception where you’ll have the opportunity to share experiences with fellow in-house lawyers across multiple sectors and celebrate the brilliance of an up-and-coming talent in the in-house community through presentation of our In-house Rising Star Award.

Why should I attend?

  • Hidden regulatory risks presented by cybercrime and defending a regulatory prosecution
  • Recent developments in contract law
  • The potential big issues for in-house lawyers posed by Brexit
  • Ethical considerations for in-house lawyers in the face of commercial and political pressure
