This session will discuss the advantages, disadvantages and contraindications of complete immediate denture (CID) therapy. It will review Jerbis technique for pre-surgical cast carving and overview a case report of a patient presenting with debilitated dentition treated by full-mouth extraction and placement of a maxillary and mandibular CID. A lingual vinyl polysiloxane putty matrix is demonstrated to control the extent of master cast carving and to preserve important anatomic landmarks prior to denture tooth arrangement. A brief review of changing dietary patterns and social habits is presented as well.

Objectives:
Discuss the circumstances that lead to an individual patient having poor dentition.
Learn how to develop a plan of care to eliminate acute and chronic pain and infection while arriving at a satisfactory dental rehabilitation solution.
Learn the rationale for full-mouth extraction followed by placement of CID.
Review a technique for evaluating and carving the mounted pre-extraction casts in preparation for construction of a CID.
