It
is not uncommon for teeth to fracture right at the alveolar crest, leaving too
little ferrel to save the tooth with conventional restorative dentistry.
Commonly today these are treated with immediate implants or bridges. If the
alveolar support is healthy, and the root relatively long and straight, these
teeth can be saved by erupting them out of the bone using very simple
orthodontics that any general dentist can learn. The concept and 2-3 cases will
be shown as a means to introduce this idea, (not really to teach the entire
technique). This can give practitioners one more option to treat fractured
teeth.
Objectives:
Learn one option to save an otherwise hopeless fractured tooth
Learn the equipment and materials needed to erupt a fractured tooth
Compare orthodontic eruption of a fractured tooth to immediate placement of a dental implant in regards to morbidity and cost
