This presentation will explore all-ceramic CAD/CAM materials and their application over a dark stump shade. It will discuss a novel approach to modifying the shade of an abutment using an opaque resin to create a material that can be fabricated chairside and have a natural transmission of light that mimics the adjacent teeth. This technique allows immediate dentin sealing, a resin top coat and the ability to use partial coverage restorations when, traditionally, a full-coverage restoration would be indicated.

Objectives:
Apply the principles of light transmission to material thickness, abutment color, opaque cements and zirconia.
Know when non-surgical root canal therapy is indicated on a tooth with an obliterated canal (calcific metamorphosis).
Compare and contrast the differences between a microfill and microhybrid resin composite.
Know the importance of the oxygen inhibited layer and the role it plays in bonding.
