It is an exciting time in dentistry. Creating value for preventive oral healthcare today is critical. By taking a collaborative healthcare approach and elevating all the members of the dental team as partners in the process of care, we can become key stakeholders in restoring our patients to optimum total health. This program focuses on innovative approaches to establishing evidence-based periodontal protocols in the hygiene department and effectively communicating the patients’ needs through motivational interviewing for positive outcomes. Methodologies to facilitate a patient-centric practice and its importance for patient treatment acceptance will be discussed. Establishing a relationship, cross-cultural communication and meeting the patient “where they are” is a highlight of this course.

Objectives:
Discuss interdisciplinary approaches to healthcare.
Describe protocols and treatment planning to maximize patient care.
Explore the use of motivational interviewing in behavior modification.
Illustrate appropriate assessment techniques to facilitate case presentation.
