Patients are living longer and complex dentitions are becoming more prevalent than
ever before in our multigenerational population. Baby Boomers represent one of our largest population segments and the 85-and- older population is expected to increase 350 percent by the year 2050. Periodontal disease is multifactorial and involves biologic, extrinsic, environmental and behavioral factors. Understanding emerging concepts and etiological theories is critical to increasing positive outcomes. This course will explore the mechanism of action of erosive tooth wear and factors leading to the pathologic activation of inflammation through microbial antigenicity, along with its effect on soft tissue.

Objectives:
Describe immune system activation of inflammation through microbial antigenicity
Explore a practical approach to managing patients with complex dentition
Assess current treatment modalities for oral disease.
Discuss clinical considerations for treatment and prevention.
