With societal changes, people are living longer, taking more medications, facing greater stresses, drinking more sports and energy drinks, grinding their teeth and perhaps even sipping more wine. These behaviors and others result in acid erosion, tooth surface loss from enamel and dentin, pain and functional problems. Adequate diagnosis requires an understanding of the interactions among sleep bruxism, gastric reflux (GERD) and sleep apnea. These topics will be discussed, and treatment strategies will be presented, including the spectrum of minimally invasive restoration to extensive rehabilitations.

Objectives:
Identify the factors that influence acid erosion, tooth surface loss from enamel and dentin, and pain and functional problems.
Understand the interactions between sleep bruxism, gastric reflux (GERD) and sleep apnea.
Understand the range of treatment strategies for erosive tooth wear.
