Adequate pain management is imperative for successful behavior guidance. Unfortunately, pain in children is routinely unrecognized and inadequately treated. Pediatric pain management is predicated on an understanding of the physiology of child pain perception, local anesthetic considerations for children and systemic pain control strategies. This course will review these topics and allow participants to apply their knowledge immediately using innovative clicker technology.
Objectives:
Understand the unique psychological and physiological characteristics of children that shape their unique pain reactions.
Describe appropriate local anesthesia agents and techniques for pain control in children.
Formulate systemic pain control strategies for children.
