MANUFACTURING SMART GROWTH

Sector Growth Workshop: Feb 15th, 2017

Connecting and Leveraging Gallatin Valley Manufacturing Companies and Resources

What would it look like if the Gallatin Valley were a regional center of manufacturing excellence?
What’s your role in improving outcomes for your company, our local economy, and the workforce?

The new White House administration has stated that its intentions include tax reform, increasing protectionism and bringing manufacturing jobs back, cutting government spending, and investing in America’s infrastructure.

In the broad manufacturing sector, hot topics include automation and robotics, the industrial internet of things (IIOT), data analytics, supply chain integration, and increasing ERP reliance. Industry Week recently identified the following issues for manufacturers to consider in 2017 and beyond:

  * Will the skills gap continue to plague manufacturing and what can we do about it?
  * Is digitalization a means to improved productivity or the path to new revenue?
  * How do manufacturers translate data from sensors into automated actions and insights?
  * How can manufacturers overcome risks of commoditization and create differentiation?
  * Should B2B industries care about the customer experience too?

Montana’s manufacturers consistently identify three major challenges:

  * Workforce
  * Access to capital
  * Sales and Marketing

Against this backdrop, what would better success look like for manufacturing in SW Montana, and how do we achieve it?

Montana Manufacturing Extension Center invites manufacturing professionals to collaborate with peers and partners from public and private sectors to identify pathways to overcome these and other pressing challenges. Participants will identify assets, resources, and capabilities, discover how to link and leverage them, and layout pathways to superior outcomes. This action-biased day-long Strategic Doing workshop will enable SW Montana’s manufacturing community to choose and realize our collective future.
