Description: Risk assessment and risk management are critical activities for the practitioner. Are you fully utilizing the patient assessment to accurately assess the risks of treating your patients?
This presentations will review the importance of the patient assessment as the main tool available to the practitioner for identifying the risks of treating any patient, and making appropriate treatment choices. The presentation will also discuss common hard and soft tissue preprosthetic surgical procedures which can be utilized to reproducibly prepare the maxillary and mandibular alveolar ridges in preparation for insertion of a removable prosthesis.

Learning objectives:

  • To review the patient work-up, the patient interview, and physical exam as main tools for the practitioner to assess the risks of treating any patient
  • Through the patient assessment, identify the treatment modifying or treatment limiting conditions presented by the patient for tailoring the treatment plan for the patient
  • To appreciate the need for identifying the level of anxiety the patient brings, and the importance in managing it.
