Description: This course will provide attendees with a review of the practical use of antibiotics, analgesics and local anesthetics in dentistry in everyday practice, with an emphasis on scientific evidence and simplified approaches. Become familiar with a list of 10 drugs to manage most prescribing situations safely and effectively, while minimizing the risk of adverse drug interactions and side effects. A lab component provides experiences in using supplementary drug-administration techniques for local anesthetics and emergency use.


Learning objectives:

  • Be able to prescribe antibiotics for common oral infections based on professional guidelines and current scientific evidence.
  • Be able to manage dental pain effectively with over-the-counter analgesics.
  • Understand the role of opioid analgesics in dental pain control.
  • Be able to select appropriate local anesthetics and practice supplementary injection techniques to obtain effective pain control for restorative and endodontic procedures.
  • Be able to select emergency drugs and understand drug-administration techniques
