Hobart - Privacy Seminar & Christmas Networking Drinks & Nibbles

A seminar presented by Rob Edwards on the topic of Privacy Laws and their impact on Fundraising followed by Christmas Networking drinks and nibbles.

As fundraisers it’s our job to know as much as we can about our donors to help us communicate effectively and meaningfully with them. In turn, donors trust us to do the right thing not only with their donations but also with their personal information. Should trust be broken it is very hard to rebuild.

More and more individuals are becoming increasingly aware of their right to access their information and to question how a company or organisation is using that information. It has been two years since the Privacy Act was amended. Significant changes came into effect, and with those changes is confusion.

Many of you are asking:

  • Is it opt-out or is it opt-in? What does opt-in really mean?
  • How do I know if I or my team are complying with the privacy principles?
  • What privacy statements must I have and where must they appear?
  • Can I approach prospects now?
  • Can I swap our donors with another organisation?

Many of us are struggling to understand if we are complying properly with the privacy principles. This is your opportunity to:

  1. Learn the key points so that you are adhering with the law and,
  2. Ask questions to one of the leading experts in this area – Rob Edwards, Chief Executive Officer of Fundraising Institute Australia

Rob has played a key role in representing the concerns and interests of the Direct Marketing and Fundraising sectors to State and Federal Government. He has spearheaded the formulation of recommendations leading to today’s privacy legislation and principles. Rob will share insight into the key points of the Privacy Act and its principles, and answer your questions so you can leave confident that you are privacy compliant.

This is a MUST attend Professional Development seminar for ALL fundraising, marketing and communication professionals.

Rob is CEO of Fundraising Institute Australia (FIA), the peak body for the Fundraising sector, a role he took up in October 2011. In his role at FIA Rob is charged with leading organisational change to ensure that the Institute continues to meet the needs of members and provides leadership for the fundraising sector especially in this time when there is significant public and therefore regulatory scrutiny of charities generally. Rob served on the ATO’s Charities Consultative Committee.

Rob left his last role as CEO of the Australian Direct Marketing Association (ADMA) in June 2011 after eighteen years. In that period he presided over growth of the Association from a minor niche player in the marketing sector to become the largest marketing industry association of its kind in Australia.

During his tenure, much of his role encompassed working with all levels of Government on complex and sometimes controversial public policy issues such as industry self-regulation privacy and data protection, anti-spam legislation, children’s online privacy and online behavioural advertising.

Rob’s work has been recognised internationally. He was Chair of the International Federation of Direct Marketing Associations for a four-year term and his frequent overseas speaking engagements include sessions at the United Nations Telecommunication Union in Geneva.

Prior to joining ADMA Rob held senior management roles at O’Brien Glass. He has also been General Manager of Marketing at Pacific Aviation, an Ansett subsidiary, was Managing Director of Key Direct Response and Vice Chairman of the ADMA Board of Directors.
