CPD for New Lawyers: Sheriff Court Procedure

The Law Society of Scotland and Ampersand have developed a programme of seminars to provide information and
training for New Lawyers working in the area of litigation or who simply want to improve their legal skills. The CPD for New Lawyers programme is designed for trainees and New Lawyers up to two years PQE.
Sheriff Court Practice introduces you to the procedure of ordinary actions in the Sheriff Court and, together with the seminar Introduction to Advocacy Skills, provides a solid foundation to ensure that those first steps into the Sheriff Court are taken with confidence.
The seminar will address the key rules of Sheriff Court ordinary actions and where to find appropriate comment and guidance. In particular, the seminar looks at the rules relating to initiating and defending actions, undefended actions, adjustment and amendment, options hearings, debates, motions, proofs and incidental procedure.
All CPD for New Lawyers seminars are presented by Ampersand Advocates.

By the end of the seminar you will:
· Be familiar of the practice and procedure of pursuing and defending ordinary actions in the Sheriff Court
· Be aware of the options available to you at any stage in proceedings
· Be able to manage your client’s case effectively throughout its life-cycle
