CPD for New Lawyers: Quantifying Litigation, Value & Risk

Tuesday 27 September 5.30pm - 7.00pm (Registration from 5pm)
Royal Faculty of Procurators, Glasgow

The Law Society of Scotland and Ampersand have developed a programme of seminars to provide information and training for New Lawyers working in the area of litigation or who simply want to improve their legal skills. The CPD for New Lawyers programme is designed for trainees and New Lawyers up to two years PQE.

Litigation is full of uncertainties, so lawyers often fall back on cautious and vague assessments of its value. For example, they may say that an action has a “reasonable prospect of success”. But there are big advantages in moving from intuition to quantification, and bringing a more precise commercial/investment mind-set to litigation decisions.

The Quantifying Litigation Value and Risk seminar will discuss leading analytical practices (from business as well as the legal profession). Simple Excel demonstrations, using real-life litigation, will be used examples to show how basic case analysis can quickly be turned into useful insights.

All CPD for New Lawyers seminars are presented by Ampersand Advocates.

Learning objectives

By the end of the seminar you will:

· Understand the advantages of treating litigation
decisions more like investment decisions

· Understand how the approach can be used to
optimise settlement decisions

· Gather tips for talking to clients about
litigation in financial language that they understand

See how this approach can be practically applied
to a case using a worked example
