In the last two centuries every indicator of human well-being (e.g. life expectancy, income per capita, hunger and infant mortality) has improved dramatically as a direct result of greater use of carbon fuels. By replacing resources harvested on the surface of our planet by coal, petroleum and natural gas, humans have also dramatically improved air and water quality and expanded the forest cover in developed economies. Dr. Desrochers will explain why, in the absence of truly superior alternatives, curtailing carbon fuel use will harm both human society and the environment. Far from being an addiction, carbon fuels have delivered benefits that greatly exceed any potential risk associated with their use.
