VIC - Networking with FIA Chair Nigel Harris FFIA CFRE

It is no surprise that, as fundraisers, we rely on the goodwill and generosity of donors and the broader community. We implicitly know that donor engagement is central to all our fundraising efforts. Through i,t we build donor trust which in turn provides donors with the confidence to keep supporting our organisations.

But what happens when that goodwill becomes negative press? What happens when the generosity starts to dry up - and rapidly? What happens when we lose both the donors’ and the public’s confidence and trust?

Last year non-profits in the United Kingdom came under merciless and relentless attack from the British media after the death of an elderly donor. Inevitably and sadly the goodwill and trust that had been built up over many decades turned overnight into scepticism and mistrust for a caring and compassionate sector.

Ensuring that we in Australia avoid this same situation, this is your opportunity to hear from FIA Chair Nigel Harris FFIA CFRE on the measures that FIA is taking so, as a sector, we are on the front foot and prepared.

Nigel with talk about the role and outcomes the newly created Taskforce focusing on sector sustainability and donor care will create along with the desired impact it will have both in donor trust and in self-regulation and will also outline his vision and the strategic direction of FIA for the next two years and the benefits to all members.

“Fundraising practitioners, and particularly fundraising leaders, need to be change agents in order to influence outcomes for the donors, the causes, and the organisations they serve.”

And lastly, as CEO and change agent of the Mater Foundation, Nigel will share how fundraising and a love for learning helped shape his career and steered him on the path to leading one of Australia’s most accountable and trustworthy donor-centric organisations. He will discuss with you the importance of a shared professional identity in fundraising.
