Join us for a panel discussion led by four professionals who will share their extensive national and local expertise on seeking gifts in Wills. This is your chance to ask questions you may have and have them answered by these experts.

Each panel member will give a brief presentation about their background and experience in the Bequest space and will speak about 2 fundamental themes that they feel are critical to the bequest space.

Chris has had many years involvement in the education sector; a role as Executive Officer of Medical Deans saw him overseeing the management of the peak body for medical schools across Australia and New Zealand. He then moved to the University of Sydney and after working in Development and External Relations he then went on to become National Bequest Officer with The Fred Hollows Foundation. In recent years Chris again turned his focus to the education sector, working in development and fundraising for a number of independent and selective schools across New South Wales. In 2016 he returned to his home town of Hobart and took up the position of Director of Development at The Hutchins School.
 
Gaye French

Gaye French has more than ten years’ experience working in fundraising roles within the not-for-profit sector. Under her management, The Wilderness Society’s “Forever Wild” bequest program grew from 55 confirmed bequestors to nearly 900 in 6 ½ years. The program was the winner of the FIA Awards for Excellence in Fundraising – bequest program (TAS) and Joint National Winner in 2008. Gaye organised Swaziland’s first ever Biggest Morning Tea during a volunteer placement as a Fundraising Advisor for the Swaziland Breast Cancer Network. She is currently employed as Advancement Coordinator for the University of Tasmania Foundation and oversees both the bequest and annual giving programs.
 
Kimberley Martin

Kimberley is a Senior Associate Lawyer at Worrall Lawyers in Hobart, with a full time practice in estate planning. Kimberley has a strong expertise all aspects of estate planning, including Wills, powers of attorney, guardianship, trust law and superannuation law. She is also experienced in the area of charity law and charitable trust law. Kimberley is currently completing her LLM (Masters) in Wills & Estates through the College of Law. Her studies have given Kimberley a greater depth of understanding about complex aspects of estate planning and different laws that apply in each Australian jurisdiction. Kimberley has been a strong voice representing the legal profession at an international, state and national level through her published work, professional presentations, and media exposure. Notably, in 2015, Kimberley was interviewed on the nationally broadcast ABC 7:30 program, by Mike Jeffreys on radio 2UE and by Ryk Goddard on ABC Afternoons. She has also been quoted in print media, including in the Age, the Sydney Morning Herald and the Mercury. Outside of her practice as a lawyer, Kimberley is the Deputy Chair and Chair of the Governance Committee of the Glenorchy Community Fund. In this role she has facilitated the incorporation of the Funds Board, as well as the attainment charitable and deductible gift recipient status for the Fund. Kimberley also volunteers her time mentoring high school, college and university students and is a regular attendee for several not-for-profit organisations, often providing valuable assisting in developing donation and bequest programs. In 2015, she was one of three finalist of the Southern Cross Young Achiever Awards “Community Service Award”. And most recently, in January 2016 she was named the Tasmanian Law Society Young Lawyer of the Year.
 
Jakki Travers
Gifts in Wills Manager
The Smith Family

Jakki is Gifts in Wills (“GIW”) Manager at The Smith Family where she is responsible for the strategic and operational activities that drive and deliver bequest income. Jakki has designed a multi-channel marketing program to acquire new GIW supporters to The Smith Family and a stewardship program to maintain donor loyalty which has seen an increase in support from the GIW funnel of 25% over the first six months of the program. Jakki is a passionate advocate for Gifts in Wills, and volunteers as a member of the Steering Committee of the Include a Charity campaign – over 100 Australian charities working together to increase income from Gifts in Wills. Jakki has previous GIW fundraising experience with Cancer Council NSW, The Prince of Wales Hospital Foundation and Caritas
