Mike Sanford and his team provide direction and oversight for TVA’s non-nuclear physical security activities including development and application of security standards, implementation and management of security systems, and interpretation of new regulatory requirements and strategies to comply with these regulations. Notable ongoing projects under Mike’s direction include the electronic key project which is a major initiative to improve access control at hundreds of TVA sites across the valley, including those shared with local power companies. Other ongoing projects under Mike’s direction include implementation of security systems at TVA’s office buildings, power production facilities, and distribution sites. He is also leading efforts to prepare for the upcoming NERC/SERC audit later this fiscal year. Prior to his current role, Mike served as Senior Advisor with TVAP&EM where he provided guidance to the TVAP&EM Director and managers on strategic, political, financial, and technical issues affecting the organization. During his career in TVA , Mike has served in a wide variety of functions and management positions in Supply Chain, Power Production, and Business Services including stints as Regional Supply Chain Manager; Manger, Plant Business Operations at a Coal Site; Manager, Business Services and Cost Accounting; Manager, River Systems Operations and Environment; Senior Manager, Hydro Engineering; and Controller, Corporate Services. He continues to find ways to use his diversity of experience to improve both performance and cost in any area he serves.
