MORO 2016
ICMIF Meeting of Reinsurance Officials 2016

It is with great pleasure that ICMIF announces details of the 23rd Meeting of Reinsurance Officials (MORO) which takes place from 6-8 June 2016 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel - Tower of London, located in the City of London (UK).

In 2014 delegates' feedback typically described the MORO as an “unrivalled and unique gathering of reinsurance professionals from the cooperative and mutual sector”. MORO is acknowledged by delegates as a unique commercial and personal development opportunity for ICMIF members from around the world to meet with their peers and reinsurers in a non-competitive environment where they can create new networks and learn from one another.

Do business, network and take control of the agenda

The MORO provides an opportunity for delegates to meet face to face and network; to do business at the traditional Mini Monte Carlo; and to collaborate which each other whilst exploring our new session format using “Open Space Technology” (sessions which are focused on a specific and important purpose or task — but which begin without any formal agenda, beyond the overall purpose or theme and delegates then decide which topics they wish to discuss). MORO 2016 is the must-attend event for all cooperative and mutual (re)insurer leaders. This event only takes place every second year so it is strongly advised to secure places early.

The MORO 2016 theme: Reinsuring the future: Building resilience through innovation

The world is under threat from natural disasters, disease, disruptive technologies, environmental degradation, political turmoil and terrorist attacks. In an increasingly interconnected and digitized world, these risks are becoming ever more complex and insurance providers need innovative reinsurance solutions not only to build resilience but also to thrive in this evolving risk landscape.

Reducing risk through innovation

A large proportion of the world’s population is still not insured against the better-known catastrophic risks that arise from natural disaster and disease. During the event there will be discussion about how the reinsurance market can develop innovative solutions to help cooperative and mutual insurers reduce risk, build more resilient communities and close the gap between economic and insured loss.

Adapting the reinsurance market

MORO 2016 will look at emerging risks that create challenges for the insurance industry. Cyber risks, driverless cars, drones, transport networking companies (for example, Uber) and use of big data will all come under the spotlight, and we will discuss how the reinsurance market can adapt to find new ways to help our members to meet these challenges head on.

MORO is designed by ICMIF members for ICMIF members

MORO 2016 will provide even more ways for members to learn from and connect with each other. There will be insightful and, at times, provocative presentations from top-class speakers from inside and outside the industry, as well as challenging panels discussing contemporary issues while drawing on the diverse perspectives of ICMIF members and key industry players. The ICMIF Reinsurance Committee, which sets the agenda for the MORO, looks forward to welcoming delegates to what promises to be the most dynamic and though-provoking ICMIF reinsurance event yet.
