Qld - 10 Traits of the Best Fundraising Professionals: How many do you have?

Who Asks?  An exploration of the characteristics of fundraisers.

Join international speaker Dr Beth Breeze, Director, Centre for Philanthropy, University of Kent, for this exclusive session where she will present findings from her study The Formation of Fundraisers: the role of personal skills in asking for money’.

This research seeks to move beyond what fundraisers do (in terms of techniques that can be taught) to explore how they do it (in terms of drawing on personal or ‘soft’ skills, that may be considered more innate).

Drawing on 50 in-depth interviews and a major survey of over 1,000 UK fundraisers, including a personality test and emotional intelligence scale, Beth will identify and discuss the distinctive personal characteristics of people who choose to raise funds for a living. She welcomes questions and hopes to receive input from those attending the session to gain an understanding of ‘who asks?’ in the Australian context.

This professional education session is suitable for CEOs, Directors of Fundraising, all fundraising professionals, HR Managers and Recruitment agencies

Be there at 7.00am to share fundraising experiences with your peers over tea/coffee before breakfast.

Free parking available at the venue.

Before moving into academia Beth worked for a decade as a fundraiser and charity manager; this experience and her ongoing strong links with the UK charity sector make practitioner concerns central to her academic output.

Beth's core research interests are major donors and major donor fundraisers: she is the lead UK contributor to the annual global ‘Million Dollar Donor Report’ and her first book, published in 2013 and co-authored with Theresa Lloyd, is Richer Lives: why rich people give. Forthcoming books include ‘The Routledge Reader on Philanthropy’ (co-edited with Michael Moody) and ‘The New Fundraisers: who organises generosity in contemporary society?’ Beth is also involved in a range of research on topics including: how donors choose charities; fundraising for unpopular causes; philanthropic journeys; giving circles; and employee fundraising.

Beth teaches undergraduate and masters courses on philanthropy, fundraising and volunteering, and in 2016 will launch the UK’s first MA in Philanthropic Studies, which will be available by distance learning.
