3. Alternating Currents (AC) on Pipelines

Date: Monday, March 7th, 2016
Time: 2:00 pm - 2:45 pm
Location: North York North
Session Type: Breakout Session
Speakers:
, Principal Corrosion Engineer Corrosion Engineering, Union Gas Limited
, Corrosion Control Engineer, Manitoba Hydro

Fernando Velandia from Manitoba Hydro will discuss the influence of induced alternating current (AC), from electrical infrastructure, on the design of protection systems and impacts to personnel safety. Fernando will explain how the evolution of the coatings increase the effect that induced AC may have in corrosion. Awareness of induced and conducted AC voltage onto oil and gas pipelines is growing with the advent of wind and solar farms. John Shore from Union Gas will discuss AC Mitigation on Oil and Gas Pipelines and share Lessons Learned. This presentation discusses challenges encountered implementing AC mitigation and the impact on standard operating practice.
