Introduction

Treatment outcomes for endododontic treatment are based on the health of the apical periodontium and long- term survivability of the tooth. Maximal success for both these objectives requires thorough disinfection of the root canal space without unnecessary removal of dentin followed by sealing of the root canal and coronal space.

This talk will emphasize the biologic requirement for successful endodontics. Strategies using cutting edge instrumentation and root filling technologies will be discussed that promise equally excellent results for vital and non-vital teeth both for prevention and treatment of apical periodontitis and for the long-term survivability of the tooth.

Bioceramic family of materials is the “in” material in endodontics. They have a high PH when unset, are extremely biocompatible when set and appear to seal extremely well. MTA as the first bioceramic material on the market. Extensive research has shown that it is ideal for many applications. However it is expensive, difficult to handle and has the potential to discolor teeth. Recently new bioceramic materials have entered the market that have fewer disadvantages. This talk will discuss the use of bioceramic materials for pulp capping, pulpotomy, root canal obturation and retrofilling.
Learning Objective:

  1. Know the biologic requirements for endodontic success.
  2. Differentiate between a vital and non-vital tooth in terms of meeting these requirements.
  3. Know to what extent the newest technologies in endodontics assist in attaining these biologic goals.

Who Should Attend?

  •  General Practitioners

08:30 - 10:30Successful Endodontics Using the Latest Technologies and Materials - Hands on (Group A)

Day 2: Hands on - 11th of April 2015

Introduction:

Endodontic diagnostics, instruments and techniques have undergone revolutionary changes in the last few years.   If the endodontic techniques you currently use in practice were acquired more than 5 years ago, that technique is now outmoded and obsolete.   It is now scientifically proven that Nickel Titanium files, if used correctly, are safe and offer a better outcome for treatment. In addition, new filling materials allow bonding in the root canal with reduced leakage as a result.

This hands - on course will provide an opportunity to update and familiarize you with these up-to-date changes. Upon completing the course, you will be prepared to perform endodontic procedures in a more straightforward and predictably safe and successful manner.

Course outline:

  • 08:30 - 09:00  Advances in endodontic diagnosis
  • 09:00 - 09:30  Nickel Titanium (NiTi) rotary instruments and irrigation protocols used in a simple sequence that results in clean canals free of cultivable microbes.
  • 09:30 - 10:00 Bonded filling techniques
  • 10:00 - 10:30 Information on which teeth to refer and which to confidently and successfully treat

Learning Objectives:

  1.  Apply new principles of canal instrumentation and filling to appropriate cases.
  2. Select appropriate instruments to suit individual needs.
  3. Perform endodontic procedures in a successful and cost effective manner.
Important Notes:

  • In order to gain the maximum learnings experience, the lecture session is a prerequisites for the hands on session,
  • Attendees must provide their own extracted pre-accessed fully developed teeth (Premolars or Molars – Multi Canals Teeth)
