Bio
Ian is a trade facilitation expert with 24 years' experience based in the United Kingdom, New Zealand and Singapore. In the mid-90’s, he played a key role in one of the world's first Customs Modernization projects, while working for the New Zealand Customs Service.
Over the years, he has been actively involved in many trade facilitation initiatives for organisations such as the United Nations Centre for Trade Facilitation and e-Business (UN/CEFACT), the World Customs Organization (WCO), the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
After living 8 years in New Zealand, Ian returned to the United Kingdom, where he was engaged as a Customs subject matter expert for the ASEAN Single Window project. One year later, he was engaged by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to develop Cargo-XML, as part of their e-Freight initiative, which is now an industry standard.
In his present role at CrimsonLogic, based in Singapore, Ian has carried out various speaking and consultancy engagements. In September 2012, he was involved in the development of a National Trade Facilitation Roadmap for Greece. A month later, in October 2012, he carried out a diagnostic study in Mexico, as part of APEC's Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) Action Plan. More recently, he has carried out data harmonization consultancies using the WCO Data Model for Oman’s new Integrated Customs Management System (ICMS) and Electronic Single Window (ESW), and for Malaysia’s new uCustoms system.
