Speaker Bio: Rockford, IL; private practice

Description: this is a half-day – hands on course for dental assistants to help increase productivity without sacrificing quality. Saving the doctor time and increasing productivity by training and empowering dental assistants to do what the law allows them.

9:30 – 10:15 - Cord placement: the instructor reviews various kinds materials used to achieve hemostasis and good gingival impressions, followed by a demonstration. Students then use the various materials, including packing cord on a model.

10:15 – 10:45 - Taking alginate impressions: the instructor reviews the theory and demonstrates how to take alginate impressions. Students then take upper and lower impressions on each other.

10:45 – 11:30 - Taking bite registration: the instructor reviews various kinds of bite registration materials and demonstrates how to take a bite registration. Students then take bite registrations on each other.

11:30 – 12:30 - Making temps: the instructor reviews various kinds of temporary materials and techniques, followed by a demonstration. Students then make a temporary on a model.

Cord packing - for Assistants

Cord packing is an effective and safe retraction technique, provided the gingival tissues are in good periodontal health. Participants will learn how to select the appropriate cord, size it and gently place it in the sulcus. Single cord and double cord techniques will be discussed. The effects of epinephrine and the importance of cord removal will also be covered.

At the end of the course, the participants will:

  • Have an understanding of Cords and medications in them
  • Be able to pack cord
  • Be able to retrieve the cords

Making Temporary restorations and taking a bite registration- for Assistants

This course will provide dental assistants with the knowledge and skills to fabricate temporary crowns and bridges and taking a bite registration.  Fabrication techniques using bis-acryl material, finishing, polishing and cementation procedures will be provided along with techniques on taking a bite registration.

At the end of the course, the participants will:

  • Have an understanding the importance of a good temporary
  • Have an understanding of the materials
  • Be able to take an impression to fabricate the temporary
  • Make a temporary
  • Have an understanding of how to adjust the temporary
  • Understand the various materials to take a bite
  • Be able to take a bite registration
