Description: The legal principles underlying the doctor-patient relationship are constantly evolving. Digital advancements, from the electronic patient record to diagnostic imaging, allow the clinician to provide more efficient and effective treatment. Along with these benefits come rights and obligations. From informed consent to informed refusal this presentation will sensitize the practicing clinician to the 21^st century legal landscape. 

Learning Objectives:

• Create a foundational understanding of the American Legal System as it applies to the health care provider.
• Sensitize the clinician to the unique rights and obligations encompassed in the doctor-patient relationship.
• Recognize those clinical areas where a doctor is most susceptible to legal intervention.
• Integrate advanced diagnostic imaging and treatment modalities into the fabric of malpractice law.
• Appreciate the ongoing legal changes and challenges of providing health care in the 21^st century.

Full refunds will be granted if written requests are received by the AGD on or before May 16, 2015. Cancellation requests received less than 30 days prior to the first official day of the annual meeting, with the exception of AGD member dentist registrants who have been elevated to delegate or alternate delegate status, will not be eligible for a credit or refund.
