KKESH is a tertiary care ophthalmic facility operated by the Ministry of Health (MOH) of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The hospital provides quality of tertiary ophthalmic care to the patients it serves, and promotes the delivery of Kingdom-wide ophthalmic care through its outreach, educational, and extensive research programs. 

For more than three decades, KKESH has been recognized for its excellence in delivering ophthalmic patient care, for its strong educational, international research programs and also continuing symposia, training of care providers. 

As KKESH has a great EHR system we decided to transform health and putting quality first to create best health care system for the patients following HIMSS requirements for stage 7. 

Public Health System Transformation; The Digitization of Millions of Patient Records. One of the largest cities in the world, New York is home to 8.5 million people speaking 250 languages. A diverse population made up of immigrants from around the world, the city is an eclectic mix of religions, language and cultures. With a focus on public health, New York City Health + Hospitals, embarked on a complex journey to digitize the records of all the citizens who utilize its public healthcare system. The ambitious project to modernize NYC Health + Hospitals, the largest municipal health system in the Americas, began in 2014 and remains on time and budget. With 45,000 employees serving multiple acute care hospitals and dozens of community clinics, the complexities of this undertaking are enormous. Challenges related to financing, leadership and governance are common, but executives outlined a bold vision that keeps the project on track. Listen as the project leader shares the implementation plan, foundational principles and lessons learned that have enabled the successful digitization of patient records in a diverse public healthcare system.

Since the first inception of PACS back in 1980, digitization of medical imaging has gone a long way. The presentation will share the author’s understandings on the trends in medical imaging in the past three decades, and study the evolution from two key angles: imaging access and imaging applications. From imaging access angle, traditional PACS has grown from modality bundled workstation to departmental networked system, to hospital wide system, and now to regional/internet based system. From imaging applications angle, modern imaging has grown much wider coverage from traditional radiology to many sub-speciality domains, including endoscopy, dental, ophthalmology, nuclear medicine, pathology, etc. How to solve these various imaging applications in a large hospital environment will become an issue for many organizations. A general purpose medical imaging platform is needed to solve the problem. Cases from US, China, and South East Asia will be shared in the presentation.
