Dr Maryam Matar MD, Ph.D.

Genetics Expert. Founder & Chairperson of UAE Genetic Diseases Association (UAEGDA)

Dr. Matar is a strong advocate of empowering community in healthcare, and has a very strong background and expertise in sustainable development, strategic planning and leadership, public policy and advocacy. She is the first woman Director General of Community Development Authority (CDA), which undertakes to formulate social policies and deliver social services that are in line with and contribute to the achievement of the social development objectives of Dubai Strategic Plan 2007 – 2015, launched by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum on February 3rd, 2007. In 2005, Dr. Matar was the leader of the executive team that set up social development strategies for Dubai Strategic Plan. As a strategic advisor, she is helping leading organisations across South East Asia and GCC to build an enabling environment where talent, science and innovation flourishes. In 2004 she had conceptualized a national body on genetic disorder, awareness and prevention and is the Founder & Chairperson of the UAE Genetic Diseases Association. The UAE Genetic Disease Association achieved extraordinary results such as screening of 37,281 Emirati families and more than 13,000 expat families. Her commitment to women leadership, STEM and scientific innovation, makes her a globally acclaimed speaker and influencer, regularly speaks, champions and supports the cause of women empowerment, participation and recognition in corporate and educational sectors.Dr Matar mentors over 100 professional women and 500 young professional graduates on annual basis and speaks in more than 35 specialist conferences in the field of healthc are across the region every year.
 
Dr. Salwa Abdulla Alsuwaidi

Dr. Salwa Alsuwaidi, a graduate of UAE University in 1997.  Started her career in Dubai Health Authority (DHA) since 1999 to specialize in Internal Medicine.  Currently holds MRCP (UK) and PhD Arab Board of Internal Medicine as well as a Post Graduate Diploma of Gerontology & Geriatrics from the University of Malta.   

She was the first Emirati Geriatrician in DHA and had a great role in establishing the first geriatric unit in Rashid Hospital in Dubai in 2007.  In addition, she was a pioneer in establishing the first Dubai rehabilitation centre for the elderly, taking care of all the responsibilities related to it as a Project Manager.    Currently she is the Director of the Family Gathering center; that is a nursing home for the inpatients, and a day care centre for the out patients. Dr. Salwa was a member of many committees at DHA and had chaired some of them.  Has excellent experience caring for elderly both at the acute hospital settings as well as at long stay facilities.  An active member; attended many courses and conferences, and was a speaker in many of them, and represented DHA in many international conferences. 

She had joined the Middle East Academy for the Medicine of Ageing (MEAMA) as a board member after completing 4 sessions in 2012. Dr. Salwa was a winner of the Emirates Women Award in 2012 for the category of Financial & Strategic Planning.  She was a winner of Shamsa Bint Suhail Award for creative women in 2013.  She was shortlisted for the final stage of Dubai Government Excellency Program in 2014 for the category of Distinguished Female Employee.  Moreover, she received Medal Pride of UAE in 2014 as part of Mohammed Bin Rashid Award for Excellence in Government Performance. 

 
Dr. Amir I.A. Ahmed, MD, Ph.D.

Dr. Amir I.A. Ahmed was graduated from the Russian State Medical University in Moscow, Russia in 1997, as well as from Leiden University, the Netherlands in 2004. Following his medical education, he trained in Geriatric Medicine from 2005 to 2010, and in Clinical Pharmacology from 2009 to 2011, both at the Radboud University Medical Center, Nijmegen, the Netherlands.

Between 2010 and 2016, Dr. Amir worked as a Consultant Geriatrician / Clinical Chief of the Department of Psychogeriatric Medicine at the Vincent van Gogh Hospital in Venray, the Netherlands. There, he was also the president of the medical staff from 2013 to 2016. In 2011 he started his doctoral research, which has resulted in a PhD thesis entitled: Clinical Pharmacology of Oral Tetrahydrocannabinol in Older People with Dementia.

Dr. Amir is connected to the Department of Geriatric Medicine / Alzheimer’s Center and the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology of the Radboud University Medical Center as a researcher and associate professor. He is extensively involved in teaching and research activities. He authored several research papers in international journals including the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, Neurology, and Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics. Moreover, he is a guest speaker at various training centres.

 
Dr. Hanan Sheikh Ibrahim

Dr. Ibrahim is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine of the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University, Ohio. She is the Academic lead for the Department of Medicine and a Consultant Physician at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi. Dr. Hanan serves as Quality Officer for the medical Subspecialty institute. She is American Board Certified Geriatrician and Internist and Board Certified Pulmonologist

She was trained at Cleveland Clinic in Ohio in the US under the tutelage of Dr. Robert Palmer, concept originator of the Acute Care of Elderly (ACE) unit, which is now an internationally recognized model of hospital care for geriatric patients. She is a pioneer in the field of geriatric care in the UAE, having implemented the first Mobile Acute Care of Elderly (MACE) program of its kind in the region.

Dr. Ibrahim completed her residency in Internal Medicine at the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Medicine in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, US. She completed her Fellowship in Geriatric Medicine at Cleveland Clinic, Ohio. She received her MD from Damascus University, Syria.

 
Dr.Mohammed Basheikh

Mohammed Basheikh is an associate Professor & Consultant Internist and Geriatrician who completed his training in Canada. He is an active member in different associations and organizations related to Internal Medicine & Geriatric Medicine, as he is a fellow at the American College of Physician (ACP), & a member at the Canadian Geriatric Society (CGS), & the American Geriatric Society (AGS). Also he is an active speaker to the Saudi Alzheimer’s disease association. He is appointed to be a member of the executive board of directive & scientific committee at the Saudi Alzheimer’s disease association since
2014. In 2017 he is elected to be the chairman of the Saudi Society for Internal Medicine.
 
Dr. Shothour Alghunaim
Head of physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department

Dr Shothour Alghunaim, the head of physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department in Alrazi Orthopedic Hospital, Kuwait, has a special interest in musculoskeletal and spinal cord injury rehabilitation. She went to Newcastle upon Tyne Medical School, and had her postgraduate training at McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario. After attaining certification to practice in physical medicine and rehabilitation, she did a fellowship in musculoskeletal medicine and electrophysiology. Dr Alghunaim has established the rehabilitation services at Alrazi hospital, focusing on musculoskeletal and spinal cord injury. She is also involved in the postgraduate training program in physical medicine and rehabilitation affiliated with Kuwait institute for medical specialization.
 
Dr Mohamed Abdulla Almarzooqi

Dr. Almarzooqi had his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, UAE University in 1998 and his Fellow of The Royal College of Physicians of Canada from McGill University, Montreal. In 2004, he was able to pass the American Board of Internal Medicine from the University of British Columbia, USA. He is a Consultant Rheumatologist in Sheikh Khalifa Medical City whose goal is to maintain the concept of patients first in all healthcare facilities and improve the health system in UAE. He is an expert in rheumatoid arthritis, connective tissue disorders, spondyloarthritis (spa), osteoporosis and intra articular injections. Aside from his work in SKMC, he is an active member of Higher Committee for Medical Liability under the Ministry of Health, Emirates Osteoporosis Society and Emirates Society of Rheumatology.
 
Dr. Abdulrazak Abyad

Representing a new wave of physicians who combine medical expertise with public health and management skills, Dr. Abyad is currently the CEO of Abyad Medical Center, Lebanon. He spent one year as the CEO - Health Care Division, Makassed Philanthropic Islamic Association, Lebanon. Formerly, he was the Chairman of Medical Education and Training at Prince Mohammed Bin Abdulaziz, Riyadh. Previously, he served as CEO of an Elderly Care/Psychiatric hospital in Lebanon and worked with the General Authority for Health Services (GAHS – the regional body overseeing health services for 1 million citizens, in 50+ facilities with a staff of over 10,000) in Abu Dhabi, UAE. He is the founder of the Middle East Academy of Medicine of Ageing, the Middle-East Primary Care Research Network and the MiddleEast Network on Ageing Research.

Dr Abyad sits on the international editorial board of the International Journal of Medicine Journal of the Association of Health Care Professionals, Geriatrics Today, and is a Board member of World CME. He was also instrumental in establishing six journals;Middle East Journal of Family Medicine, Middle-East Journal of Age & Ageing, Middle East Journal of Nursing, Middle East Journal of Business, Middle East Journal of Internal Medicine, and Middle East Journal of Psychiatry & Alzheimer’s. He is currently the Chief Editor of four of these journals and associate editor of two.

 
Qadriya Abdallah Hassan Al Marzouqi

Qadriya Al Marzouqi is a Registered Nurse with more than 16 years of clinical and managerial experience in the healthcare field. She has joined the Institute of Nursing - Abu Dhabi, UAE in 1998 and earned her Diploma in Nursing Sciences with Distinction in 2001. Qadriya obtained a Dual Bachelor of Nursing Degree from Fatima College of Health and Sciences in Abu Dhabi and Griffith University from Queensland, Australia in 2013. She holds a Master of Business Administration Degree from Swiss Business School (SBS) since 2016. In 2009, Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC) Advanced Skills Program Training Center - Abu Dhabi has selected Ms. Al Marzouqi to become a member of the American Heart Association (AHA) Team as Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor. Qadriya is an Associate Member of Emirates Nursing Association (ENA) since 2014.
 
Dr Waleed Abdullah Mohammed Al- Malik

Dr. Waleed has more than 25 years of clinical experience and currently working as the Head of Geriatrics Medicine Unit, Family Medicine Department, King Abdulaziz Medical City, Saudi Arabia. He serves as lecturer and trainer at Ministry of Health (MOH) and King Saud Ben Abdulaziz University (KSAU-HS) to teach Geriatrics Medicine for medical students, residents and trainees.

He published papers and books including “The Opinions of Saudi Family Medicine Trainees and Recent Graduates” on Jan 1999. This is about the content and structure of the in-hospital part of the Residency Training Program KING ABDULAZIZ MEDICAL CITY (KAMC); “The level of adherence to the Diabetes Mellitus (DM) Clinical Practice Guidelines” for improving the care of older persons with DM. (Q.I study project) at Geriatrics Day Hospital Program in St. Joseph's Community Health Center, Hamilton, Canada on March, 2004.

He is the co-editor of National Elderly Care Manual for Ministry of Health and the co-author of the National Strategy for Elderly Care in Saudi Arabia.

He actively participates in local and international conferences as speaker and he has been a member of numerous Medical Society and Institutions form Geriatric and Family Medicine.
 
Dr.Omar Sami Basubrain

Dr. Omar has more than 12 years of clinical experience and currently working as Consultant Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine for International Extended Care Center, Jeddah, KSA. He is specialized in dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases.He holds a Bachelor in Medicine and Surgery from King AbdulAziz University and took his Saudi Board in Internal Medicne, Residency in Internal Medicine from National Guard Hospital. In 2013, he completed his Clinical Fellowship in Geriatric Medicine from the University of Western Ontario.

Before joining his present company, he worked for King Abdullah Medical City, Mecca as consultant before he assumed the Internal Medicine Residency Training Program Director post in 2015. In the same year, he becomes part of the faculty of Umm Alqura University, Mecca and currently working as Assistant Professor.

 
Dr. Majdi Al-Najjar MD, FACE

Dr. Majdi Al-Najjar is American board certified in Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism, American Board Certified in Internal Medicine and certified by ACE in Thyroid Ultrasound & US-guided-FNA. He received his medical degree from the Jordan University of Science and Technology in 1992. Upon receiving his medical degree he went on to do his residency for Internal Medicine at Seton Hall University- St. Joseph Hospital and Medical Center campus in New Jersey, along with his Endocrinology fellowship at Beth Israel Hospital & Medical Center, in New York.  He is a Fellow of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (FACE). Dr. Al-Najjar has extensive experience in diabetes and endocrine care. Currently he is a senior consultant in endocrinology at Zayed military Hospital. He was the chief of Endocrinology at Lakeland Medical Center in St Joseph, Michigan, North General Hospital in Manhattan, as well as Jersey city Medical Center in New Jersey. 

 
Dr. Mohamed Hatim Mohamed Ahmed

Dr. Mohamed Hatim has more than 9 years of clinical and managerial experience in the healthcare field throughout Sudan, Libya and UAE. Before joining Hanover as Medical Director, he worked for different facilities in UAE, MMC in Dubai and Venecia Home Nursing and Rehabilitations in Abu Dhabi. In Libya, he was nominated to be the head of the Medical team accompanying the Libyan Congress and Ministers council.

He participated in several international medical conferences in Middle East, UK and Australia. Dr. Hatim has a Professional career reflecting over 14 years of training more than Three thousand individuals, in Public Administration, strategic planning, Public relations, organizational administrative consultancy & health. Served as head of different organizations, national and International, He is the founder of AEDAS organization in Sudan, and was the President of Sudanese Federation of Medical Associations, International Project manager with International Federation of Medical Students Associations (IFMSA), he works as consultant and advisor with different institutes and NGOs. Covered many aspects of voluntary and NGOs work such as Public health, human rights & peace, medical education, with UNFPA, UNICEF.
