Get Down & Dirty for Soil Health
NRM South

We all rely on dirt. Food production takes up more than one third of Earth’s land; ever increasing as the population grows. We must look after our soil if we want to keep growing food from it. Get to know your soil through some simple soil science… and bring along a sample from your own garden for pH testing.

Wildlife Spotter- A new ABC interactive website where you participate in conservation science by I.D.ing Australian wildlife images. Hosted by participating partner, the Tasmanian Land Conservancy.

MadLab is a unique, hands-on electronics workshop for children and adults. In this workshop learn how to use a soldering iron, to actually make a working electronic circuit that you can take home.

Who loves LEGO? Come and build one of our special Bricks 4 Kidz models. We also have mountains of free play LEGO, so be creative!

Searching for the Last Wild Thylacine
FRIDAY SCHOOLS DAY ONLY

7 September 2016 is National Threatened Species Day and commemorates the 80th anniversary of the death of the last known (captive) thylacine. Stripes in the Forest by award-winning author, Aleesah Darlison, is a poignant and emotive story of an iconic species lost told from the point of view of the last wild, female Tasmanian tiger. Join Aleesah as she takes you on a journey of discovery about the thylacine.

History and Geology of Salamanca Walking Tour

Take a memorable tour through time discovering the fascinating history behind the convicts, early pioneers, bricks, stones, rocks and landscapes of Salamanca.

Tour departs 12.30pm outside Salamanca Arts Centre and returns at 2pm.

Engineering Heritage Walk

Take a guided walk around Sullivans Cove and explore early engineering projects, buildings and machinery that have become part of Tasmania’s heritage.

Tours depart 10am and 2pm from Princes Wharf No.1 main entrance. Duration: 60 mins.

Science Mystery Tour

Curious about the science lurking around Hobart’s waterfront? Then join one of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute’s science mystery tours and discover more about everyday science within walking
distance of the docks - three mystery venues to explore!
