Keynote Speakers
 Carmen Farina, Chancellor of New York City Department of EducationFariña has 40 years of experience in New York City public schools. She began her career as a teacher at P.S. 29 in Cobble Hill, later rising to become a principal at Manhattan’s P.S. 6 and the superintendent of Brooklyn’s District 15. Fariña was appointed Deputy Chancellor for Teaching and Learning in 2004, and later went on to become a vocal advocate outside of government for comprehensive early education and parental involvement in school policy.

 Maryanne Wolf, Professor, Researcher & AuthorWolf is Professor of Citizenship and Public Service and Director of the Center for Reading and Language Research at Tufts University. She received her doctorate from Harvard University. Among her awards for teaching and research are the Distinguished Professor of the Year award from the Massachusetts Psychological Association, the Teaching Excellence Award from the American Psychological Association, the Distinguished Researcher Award from Tufts University, the Norman Geschwind Lecture Award and the Samuel T. Orton Award from the International Dyslexia Association, and the NICHD Shannon Award for Innovative Research, the basis of the RAVE-O reading intervention program, created by Prof. Wolf and members of the Center.Wolf is the author of Proust and the Squid: The Story and Science of the Reading Brain, which is translated into twelve languages and an audio version. Wolf¹s research interests include reading interventions, imaging studies of the reading brain, the genetic basis of dyslexia, early prediction, fluency and naming speed, cross-linguistic studies of reading, and the development of a reading tablet in work on globalliteracy. |
