DCU Water Institute are delighted to host the forthcoming IWA Regional Conference on Diffuse Pollution and Catchment Management, taking place in DCU’s Helix Conference Centre, from October 23rd – 27th 2016.
Dublin City University is a young, dynamic and ambitious university with a distinctive mission to transform lives and societies through education, research and innovation. Since admitting its first students in 1980, DCU has grown in both student numbers and size and now occupies a 72 acre site in Glasnevin, just north of Dublin city.

DCU Water Institute is a Research Institute within DCU. We have over 30 academic principal investigators with a wide-range of professional experience that enables us to form strong multi-disciplinary teams. We welcome opportunities for collaboration with partners from business; academia and government, to better understand and manage our water resources into the future. It brings together a research partnership that reaches across universities, SMEs, Multinationals, Government agencies and regulatory authorities to discuss challenges and opportunities related to water.
DCU Water Institute aims at addressing national, international and global water resource problems through excellence in research, education and innovation in water science, technology, management and governance.
Our vision is to provide informed leadership decisions and sustainable action, using advanced technology and data analytics in a multidisciplinary dynamic research environment. We will achieve this vision through collaboration between WI members, government, industry, partner academics and agencies and identify opportunities for knowledge transfer.
Water is at the forefront of global agendas, not least here in Ireland, with the introduction of water charges and the establishment of Irish Water, the continuing concerns in relation to public water quality and the emerging risks associated with climate change leading to flooding or droughts. Increased rapid urbanization, climate change, and population growth forecasts, all place strain on our water resources, both globally, and nationally. The strategic need to provide a secure supply of potable water to the greater Dublin area is becoming a concern for communities, and for major multinationals, as models suggest that demand will outstrip supply in the coming years.
Therefore, this conference on Diffuse Pollution and Catchment Management is as topical as it is relevant. The global nature of water related issues will be reflected in presentations by strategic thinkers from the United States, Sweden, Australia, Europe and the UK.
We would like to thank Ray Earle from Dublin City Council for inviting us to host this wonderful event, and indeed all the organizational input from Keynote PCO, and we look forward to giving you all a wonderful Irish welcome on the 23rd of October.
