General information

The following information is provided to make your attendance at the Crime Prevention and Communities conference as enjoyable and hassle free as possible. If you require assistance throughout the conference, please visit the Registration Desk and we will do everything we can to help you.

Registration & information desk

The Registration and Information Desk will be centrally located onsite at the conference venue for collection of name badges and conference materials. Staff will be on hand to answer any queries and provide information. The opening hours are as follows:

 8.00 am - 5.00 pm

Dietary requirements

All catering breaks including lunch, morning and afternoon teas will be served on level 1 outside the conference rooms.  If you have indicated a special dietary need, please go to the special dietary requirements buffet table or speak to a venue staff member to collect your meal. If you have not already done so, please advise the conference organisers of any dietary requirements (including vegetarian and religious requirements).

To ensure your requests can be met, please include your dietary requests during registration, or email the conference office at least 1 week prior to the start of the conference at events@aic.gov.au

Dress code

Smart casual/business attire is suggested for conference sessions and social functions. As conference rooms may vary in temperature, it is advised you wear layers for comfort.

Internet access

Free wireless internet access is provided throughout the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, for the duration of the conference. Users are required to subscribe (free of charge) to the service via a login page and agree to the terms and conditions. You will need to resubscribe after 12 hours.

This service is suitable for basic internet browsing, web-based email, Facebook, Twitter, MSN Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, Skype, Google Talk and IMAP/POP3/SMTP email.

Insurance

Insurance of any kind is NOT included in registration fees – it is advised that delegates take out appropriate health and travel insurances prior to travelling. The Conference Organisers do not take any responsibility for delegates failing to insure.

Liabitilty disclaimer

In the event of industrial disruption or other unforeseen circumstances, the conference organisers accept no responsibility for loss of monies incurred by delegates. The organising committee and conference organisers accept no liability for injuries, losses of whatever nature incurred by participants and/or accompanying persons, nor for loss of damage to their luggage and/or personal belongings.

Luggage storage

A cloak room is located on the ground floor of the Convention Centre. If it is not manned, staff at the customer service desk will be happy to assist. The conference organisers are unable to store delegate luggage, and no responsibility will be taken for luggage left in the conference rooms.

Name badges

Each Conference delegate will receive a name badge on registration at the conference. This badge will be your official pass and must be worn to gain entry to all sessions, morning and afternoon tea, lunch and the networking reception.

Banking facilities

ATM's are located within the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, as well as just outside and throughout the city.

Bank operating hours vary between banks but most banks opening hours are 9:00am-4pm Mon – Thu and 9:00-5pm Fri. A number of banks are open Sat 9am-12pm. Check with individual banks websites for full opening hours.

  • Southgate Pharmacy (14/3 Southgate Avenue, Southbank)

Post office

Post Offices generally open from 09:00 to 17:00 Monday to Friday. The nearest post offices are located at:

  • 1 Freshwater Place, Southbank
  • 35 Collins Street, Melbourne
  • 313 Spencer Street, Melbourne

Restaurants

A variety of eateries and cafes are conveniently located within a 5-10 minute walk of the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre:

Southgate is the place to be with an array of restaurants, bars and cafes:

  • Being the centre of Melbourne’s cosmopolitan arts and leisure precinct, Southgate indulges in some of the best cuisines, including Indian, Turkish, Japanese, Italian, seafood, Middle Eastern, Thai, and French.
  • The Riverside Food Court at Southgate offers a selection of take away foods including TRIOS wraps, Salsa's, Muffin Break and Kebabs. It is situated right on the Promenade, next to the Yarra River, with views of Melbourne’s CBD.
  • Southgate Promenade offers endless retail shops, pubs, street performers and river cruises departing from Southgate Berth.

Crown Entertainment Complex offers some of Melbourne’s finest and most cosmopolitan dining experiences, including:

  • More than 40 restaurants and cafes that offer a variety of cuisines, from seafood alfresco dining to the best Asian, Mediterranean and Italian cuisine.
  • Two large food courts and ample seating

Phone calls

Please respect the presenter and other members of the audience by ensuring your mobile phone is switched off or on silent while you are in sessions.

Photography

A photographer will be present throughout the conference taking photos of delegates and speakers. Please make yourself known to reception if you do not agree to have your photo used. Photos may be used on social media such as Twitter and Facebook, as well as for future promotional use.

Personal information

The Conference will collect and store information you provide in your Registration Form for the purposes of enabling us to:

  • register your attendance at the Conference;
  • assist with administrative and planning purposes;
  • plan and develop Conference and other events in the future;
  • facilitate your requirements in relation to the Conference; and
  • allow the compilation and analysis of statistics relevant to the Conference.

The information that you provide in the Registration Form and information provided at any other time during the Conference, including without limitation any feedback obtained during the Conference, will be used by the Conference to offer, provide and continue to improve its conferences and other services.

Session recording

All keynote speakers (that provide approval) will be professionally recorded. The sessions will be available on CriminologyTV after the conference.
