Student Rate: Saturday: $125, no reception. Student identification required.
Mentoring (Saturday ONLY): $60
Trying to break into the magazine market? Need help making a query sing? Want to know how to get your nonfiction book published? Get answers and career advice from a professional writer. For $60, you'll get 30 minutes of face-to-face guidance from an ASJA mentor on the nonfiction writing topic you choose. Space is limited, so sign up early! Appointments will be scheduled Saturday mornings. Mentoring can jump-start careers. "I went to that meeting as a longtime newspaper writer, with no clue how to pitch anything," said ASJA member Laura Beil. "I followed what I learned about query letters and pitching to editors. I just completed a story for the New York Times (which made it onto the front page yesterday!) and got a Reader's Digest query accepted right away."
REFUND POLICY: ASJA will refund 100 percent of an attendee's registration remittance if email notice of cancellation is received at firstname.lastname@example.org before 5 p.m. Eastern time, Wednesday, May 11, 2016. $100 of the fee is nonrefundable thereafter. No refund will be given for any reason if notice is not received at email@example.com by 5 p.m. Eastern time on Tuesday, May 17, 2016.
Force Majeure The ASJA shall not be liable for any failure or delay in holding the 2016 Annual Writers Conference ('Conference'), or be liable for the refund of any fees or payments to the extent said failure or delay results from a cause beyond the ASJA's reasonable control, including, without limitation: acts of God; war; terrorism; government regulation; police activity or investigation; curtailment of transportation facilities; strikes or union activity; the ASJA's failure to obtain insurance which is adequate in the ASJA's sole discretion; material failure of performance or repudiation of performance of any of the ASJA's suppliers, contractors, or subcontractors, including the Roosevelt Hotel, to substantially meet their respective obligations to the ASJA; or any other emergency beyond the ASJA's control, which makes it impossible, impractical, inadvisable, or illegal for the ASJA to hold the Conference, or which, in the ASJA's sole discretion, materially affects the ASJA's ability to hold the Conference.
Recording, Transmission and Exhibition Attendees of the Conference agree not to record or transmit, or aid in recording or transmitting, any description, account, picture, or reproduction of the Conference or any portion thereof, including but not limited to any presentation, workshop, speaker or any materials distributed therein. Attendees grant permission to the ASJA to utilize attendees' image, likeness, actions and statements in any live or recorded audio, video, or photographic display or other transmission, exhibition, publication or reproduction made of, or at, the Conference in any medium or context without further authorization or compensation.
